Weil Women's Wisdom: Advice to our Younger Selves 2025

PARTNER, COMPLEX COMMERCIAL LITIGATION MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEMBER CO-MANAGING PARTNER, GERMAN OFFICES LAW SCHOOL GRADUATION YEAR 1996 YEAR JOINED WEIL 2002 YEAR PROMOTED TO PARTNER 2005 HOMETOWN DÜSSELDORF, GERMANY Dear Younger Self, You and I, we are not ones for very long letters and are rather postcard people…. So this letter will also be in our joint “straight to the point” style. The future will be exciting! You can look forward to it – you will go to places you never thought you would go; you will have successes you never thought you would have (although, even you as a younger self tended not to have too many doubts – keep that attitude); and there will be many people who will support you on your journey through life! But there are a few things I can tell you that will be important. You can be and sometimes you need to be tough, but that does not mean you have to treat people unfairly or without respect. Quite the opposite: Think of those around you and be nice – then there will always be people to support you when things get a little rough. And you will also have a lot of fun with others! With everything you do or you decide, try to always be able to look into the mirror every morning and every evening, respecting what you see. That helps to overcome any crisis – and, if once in a while, you do not like what you see, remember: Nobody is perfect! (But keep trying.) And do good things, they will help others and make you feel better. In that context: try not to worry too much about what others might think – you cannot change it anyway. And, in that respect, do not listen to those who tell you what you cannot do; listen to those who tell you what you can do. These will be the special people, the sponsors of your journey. And most importantly: Don’t be concerned! There is nothing to worry about – the world is open to you, if you are prepared to see the chances rather than the risks. You will like it! All the best, Your Older Self P.S. One more word of wisdom – not from me, but from Coco Chanel: A woman with good shoes is never ugly (this will justify a lot of purchases). The world is open to you, if you are prepared to see the chances rather than the risks. “ ” WEIL WOMEN’S WISDOM · 53 52 · WEIL WOMEN’S WISDOM
