Private Funds partner Andrew Chizzik has been recognized as a 2023 “Dealmaker of the Year” by The American Lawyer.

Andrew was profiled by the publication for advising Brookfield Asset Management in forming the largest-ever fund dedicated to supporting the transition to net-zero carbon emissions. He led a 13-attorney Weil team that counseled the Brookfield Global Transition Fund, which raised $15 billion to focus on clean-energy investments. The fund received support from more than 100 investors and raised double the amount of funds that Brookfield initially sought.

Andrew successfully guided Brookfield through numerous regulatory challenges in the U.S. and abroad, including European rules that were changing at the time. The team also learned about sustainability and carbon reduction spontaneously while advising Brookfield on other matters. Despite the challenges, Andrew told The American Lawyer that the Weil team maintained its passion for the project.

“Everyone had the feeling internally that they were a part of something special, and I think that really added to the experience from the Weil side,” he told the publication.
