Head of Weil’s Intellectual Property & Media practice Benjamin Marks and IP/Media partner Todd Larson were named among Billboard’s 2023 Top Music Lawyers list – the third consecutive year each partner has received this honor.

The magazine noted that Ben and Todd have a “front-row view of the industry’s royalty battles” by representing clients like SiriusXM, Spotify, Twitter and AEG Presents.

The pair was recognized for securing a historic industry-wide settlement for Pandora Media in a case before the Copyright Royalty Board, among other notable successes. Settled on the eve of trial, the matter sets royalty rates paid by on-demand streamers for certain publishing rights for the 2023-2027 period and was hailed as a landmark decision when the settlement was reached in August 2022.

Ben told Billboard that his biggest case of 2022 was representing AEG and the North American Concert Promoters Association against BMI in a royalty rate-setting matter for the public performance of songs in the BMI repertoire between 2014 and 2022.
