Weil Continues Private Funds Expansion with Addition of Kristine M. Koren

NEW YORK, JULY 2, 2024: International law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP announced today that Kristine M. Koren has joined the Firm as a partner in the Private Funds practice, based in the New York office.

Kristine has a balanced practice representing both investor and sponsor clients in the formation and capitalization of a diverse range of domestic and offshore private investment funds and asset managers, including related financings, co-investment, acquisition and exit transactions. Her clients include private funds, financial services firms, sovereign wealth funds, family offices, high net worth individuals and other asset managers.

“Kristine brings extensive experience advising on sophisticated fund formations that consistently meet the needs of both sponsors and investors,” said Weil Executive Partner Barry Wolf. “She will be an excellent substantive and cultural fit, and it is our great pleasure to welcome her to Weil.”

“Weil is strategically expanding our Private Funds practice to serve our clients’ diverse fundraising needs, and Kristine’s arrival adds new depth to our capabilities,” said Michael J. Aiello, Chairman of Weil’s global Corporate Department. “She has a particular expertise in structuring customized arrangements that meet specific client objectives and attract wide-ranging investor interest.”

“Kristine has a broad-based practice that fits in very well with our platform,” said Jonathon Soler, head of Weil’s U.S. Private Funds practice. “Her extensive experience counseling clients in the formation and operation of U.S. and offshore private investment funds will be a great asset for our team.”

Kristine joins from Mayer Brown LLP, where she was a partner in the Corporate & Securities practice. Her practice focuses on the formation of domestic and offshore funds – including leveraged buyout, credit, infrastructure, real estate, mezzanine, special opportunities and venture funds, as well as customized, hybrid structures that combine features of traditional private equity and alternative funds. She just concluded her third consecutive term as Co-Chair of the New York State Bar Association’s Private Investment Funds Subcommittee and has been recognized for her commitment to pro bono work. An authority in her field, Kristine co-authors a leading treatise on private funds, Private Equity Funds: Business Structure and Operations.

Kristine’s arrival quickly follows those of experienced private funds regulatory partners Christopher Mulligan, who joined Weil in March 2024, and Christopher Scully, who moved to the Firm in November 2023. Together, these moves reflect the continued growth and commitment to the Firm’s market-leading Private Funds practice.

“Weil’s broad global corporate platform provides me with a tremendous opportunity for growth,” said Kristine. “I look forward to being able to serve my clients’ needs in powerful new ways and alongside some of the most experienced corporate lawyers in the marketplace.”
