Weil has been named among Law360’s 2024 “Bankruptcy Groups of the Year” for steering many of the largest and most notable restructurings of the past twelve months. The Firm is one of only six firms recognized nationwide.

Law360 highlighted Weil's representations of Steward Health Care in its $9 billion chapter 11; Scandinavian Airlines System in its cross-border reorganization, which included $2 billion in debt and $1.2 billion in exit financing; and Robert Pincus, the special master overseeing the court-ordered sale of Citgo’s parent company.

Restructuring Department Co-Chair Matt Barr noted that the restructuring of Steward – the nation’s largest physician-owned hospital system – required Weil to take certain precautions to ensure its hospitals would continue operating.

"I'm not minimizing representing a company that makes widgets in Kansas, but a company that operates and facilitates hospitals; people are more concerned, rightfully so, about explaining what happened and why it happened," Matt said.

Scandinavian Airlines’ restructuring was also intricate because of its cross-border nature and its status as the national airline of Denmark, Norway and Sweden, Law360 wrote. 

"That airline is the connector between Scandinavian countries, so it became very political very quickly," Restructuring Department Co-Chair Gary Holtzer explained.

Law360 noted that Weil has 140 restructuring lawyers in New York, London, Paris, Houston, Hong Kong, Frankfurt and Miami. Coordination between the New York and London offices is becoming more critical, Gary said, because “there have been and will be increasingly large numbers of cross border transactions.”

Law360 also mentioned Weil’s work advising AMC Entertainment Holdings in refinancing $2.45 billion in debt and securing a creditor settlement, Core Scientific in its chapter 11 as well as SoftBank Vision Fund II-2 L.P. as the largest creditor in WeWork’s chapter 11.
