Weil has been named among Law360’s 2024 “Fund Formation Groups of the Year” for advising on many of the largest and most significant investment funds during the previous year. The Firm is one of only five recognized nationwide.
The publication highlighted Weil’s work guiding Brookfield Asset Management across five funds totaling more than $50 billion in late 2023, including its $30 billion Brookfield Infrastructure Fund V, which it called “record-shattering,” and Crow Holdings in its $3 billion Crow Holdings Realty Partners X fund.
Jonathon Soler, Weil’s Co-Managing Partner and Head of the U.S. Private Funds practice, told Law360 that the group’s success is a testament to the expertise of its 90 lawyers, and the relationships the Firm has with its clients around the world.
“We very much pride ourselves on the breadth of our practice. We've never aspired to be the biggest, but we certainly seek to be the best,” Jonathon said. “And part of that offering is ensuring that we are able to service clients of various shapes and sizes across various strategies.”
Private Funds partner Andrew Chizzik, whom Law360 recognized as the lead attorney guiding Brookfield on its funds, said Weil’s ability to handle various funds at once, including record-setting ones, showcases Firm attorneys’ acumen in navigating cross-border requirements for funds of immense scale and size.
Additionally, Law360 emphasized the expansion of Weil’s Private Funds practice and its addition of some 30 attorneys since 2020, including four lateral partners in the last 18 months. The publication also highlighted the group’s work guiding Altamont Capital Partners in its first continuation fund of $462.8 million and TRP Capital Partners in the closing of a single asset continuation fund for GenOx Transportation.
