Complex Commercial Litigation partner Pravin Patel has been named one of Law360’s 2024 “Rising Stars” for Class Action litigation in recognition of his expertise and achievements representing clients over the past year.
Law360 interviewed Pravin and highlighted his work representing refrigerator maker Dometic Corp. in multiple class actions worth billions in claims in what Pravin called the biggest case of his career.
Throughout a six-year legal odyssey, Pravin defended Dometic against allegations that its refrigerators for RVs leaked coolant and had design defects, and in 2023 secured the company’s release from all claims.
“Ultimately we were able to achieve a fantastic result for our client,” he told the publication. “At the end of the day, that's why we do what we do and why I do what I do, is to service the clients and get good results for them.”
Pravin also discussed his role leading a Weil team that won the complete dismissals of three novel class actions filed against Burger King, alleging that the company failed to disclose the use of PFAS, an FDA-approved chemical used in its packaging.
“Over a very short period, like five or six months, we were able to get all of those cases dismissed at the motion to dismiss stage,” he said.
The article also covered Pravin’s pro bono work and other current matters, including defending Major League Baseball star Shohei Ohtani in a proposed class action related to celebrities’ endorsements of failed cryptocurrency exchange FTX.
