Weil advised NielsenIQ (NIQ), a portfolio company of Advent International, on the antitrust aspects of its acquisition of GfK SE, as well as the associated divestment of GfK’s Consumer Panel business to YouGov, which completed on January 9th, 2024.
The combination of NIQ and GfK created a leading global provider of information and analytics in consumer and retail measurement. Weil advised on the merger control proceedings before the European Commission, leading to one of only four Phase 1 clearances with remedies adopted by the Commission last year. The case was also a rare instance of the Commission not requiring an upfront buyer in the context of a carve-out remedy.
The Weil team advising NIQ was led by Brussels Antitrust partner Niklas Maydell. The team also included London Antitrust counsel Annagiulia Zanazzo, as well as Brussels Antitrust counsel Jakob Dewispelaere and associates Clémence Coppin, Jenny Patroclou and Ines Sousa Mendes.
