Weil has been shortlisted for two honors at the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers North America Awards 2024, both in the “Innovative Lawyers in the Technology Sector” category.
Weil’s success as global antitrust counsel to Microsoft Corporation in the completion of its $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard Inc. was recognized. The Antitrust practice successfully led Microsoft through several regulatory hurdles across international jurisdictions to enable closing of the company’s largest ever acquisition, including approval from the European Commission and the U.K. Competition and Markets Authority as well as working alongside trial counsel to defeat the U.S. Federal Trade Commission’s attempt to preliminarily enjoin the merger and in the subsequent appeals.
The Firm’s representation of Core Scientific, Inc. was also shortlisted. Led by Weil’s Restructuring Department, the Restructuring, Litigation and Corporate Departments advised Core Scientific, a leading bitcoin mining company, through its chapter 11, securing via mature instruments full creditor repayment, a substantial shareholder recovery reducing debt by $400M and resolving $300M in litigation claims. The restructuring saved 240+ jobs, Core relisted on NASDAQ and the market has embraced its transformation into an AI cloud-based platform. The company currently has a market cap of more than $3 billion.
Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in New York on December 9. A special report will also be published about the honorees in which the Financial Times will “explore the key trends and transformations taking place in the legal sector.”
