Biography

Karen Chao
Karen Chao is a partner in Weil’s Private Funds practice and is based in New York. She focuses her practice on the representation of alternative asset managers in the formation and structuring of private equity and other private investment fund vehicles.

Karen also advises sponsors on operational, regulatory, governance and other ongoing life of fund and sponsor matters, including advising clients on issues relating to the Investment Advisers Act and the Investment Company Act. Karen has also represented prominent sovereign wealth funds and state pension funds in connection with their investments in private investment vehicles, including separate and managed accounts.

Karen has represented a diverse group asset managers, including, among others, Neuberger Berman, Franklin Templeton, Serena Ventures, PineBridge Investments, ICONIQ, Halstatt Capital and UBS.  

Prior to joining Weil, Karen was a partner at another international law firm.

Karen received her LL.B, with first class honors, from the University of Sydney and her B.A., with first class honors, from Queen’s University.
