Biography

Minna Zhang

Minna Zhang is an associate in the Restructuring Department of the Firm’s Hong Kong office. She has extensive experience advising on contentious and non-contentious restructuring and insolvency-related matters, acting for a wide range of stakeholders including debtors, creditors and insolvency practitioners. Minna has been involved in restructuring transactions and corporate insolvencies in Australia and Hong Kong, and has worked on cross-border transactions involving the PRC, the US, the Cayman Islands and BVI.

Prior to joining Weil, Minna worked at leading international law firms in Hong Kong and Sydney, and previously clerked for the Honorable Justice PLG Brereton AM RFD of the Supreme Court of New South Wales.

Minna is a native English speaker and is fluent in Mandarin.

Minna’s representative experience include:*

  • The ad hoc group of bondholders in relation to the restructuring of US$7+ billion of offshore debt of China Aoyuan Group Limited and its subsidiary, Add Hero Holdings Limited, which included US$3+ billion of offshore bond debt. Named Asia-Pacific Restructuring Deal of the Year for 2024 at the IFR Awards and shortlisted for Restructuring Deal of the Year and Restructuring Team of the Year for 2025 at the IFLR Asia-Pacific Awards.
  • The ad hoc group of bondholders in relation to the restructuring of US$6+ billion of offshore bond debt issued by Shimao Group Holdings Limited (one of the five largest situations among distressed Chinese property developers in terms of size of outstanding offshore bonds).
  • The senior secured noteholders, and the receivers and managers of Smart Edge Limited (a subsidiary of the HK listed Goldin Financial Holdings), in relation to the sale of the Goldin Financial Centre and related security enforcement matters in respect of HK$6.8 billion senior secured notes.
  • The receivers of Golden Wheel Tiandi (and related entities) in relation to the sale of the Golden Wheel Plaza in Hong Kong.
  • A Chinese state-owned enterprise in its capacity as a secured lender of a large corporate group, with subsidiaries in Hong Kong and Australia, to which receivers and voluntary administrators were subsequently appointed.
  • An international dispute resolution funder in relation to its debt claim against a high profile Australian company.
  • A multinational company on the restructuring of its real estate and business support services in Australia.
