Griffin Baker is an associate in Weil’s Tax Department and is based in Dallas. Griffin participates in the representation of Firm clients with respect to the tax aspects of a wide range of corporate transactions and matters including mergers and acquisitions, credit facilities, and the formation of private equity funds. Griffin Baker also participates in the representation of Firm clients with respect to renewable energy tax credit transfers under the Inflation Reduction Act.

Griffin has been part of the teams advising:

  • Advent International in its $6.4 billion acquisition of Maxar Technologies
  • Antin Infrastructure Partners in its acquisitions of Empire Access and North Penn Telephone Co Inc (together known as Empire)
  • Brookfield Asset Management in its $15 billion formation of Brookfield Global Transition Fund, the world’s largest private fund dedicated to facilitating the global transition to a net-zero carbon economy
  • Genstar Capital and its portfolio company Marcone Appliance Parts Center, Inc. in Marcone’s acquisition of Munch's Supply
  • Goldman Sachs in its $440 million strategic investment in BrightNight
  • Private Equity at Goldman Sachs Alternatives and its portfolio company Omega Healthcare Management Services in an investment by Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, through which Ontario Teachers’ will join Private Equity at Goldman Sachs Alternatives as co-lead investor in Omega Healthcare
  • A life insurance company in its acquisition of alternative fuel vehicle refueling property credit generated by nationwide portfolio of EV charging stations
  • Outlook Group, LLC (a portfolio company of Aterian Investment Partners) in its senior secured term loan and revolving facility
  • Peak Rock Capital and its portfolio company The Tranzonic Companies in its acquisition of Supply Source Enterprises, Inc. (a portfolio company of H.I.G Capital)
  • PSG in its sale of Sovereign Sportsman Holdings, LLC to PayIt, LLC
  • Skillsoft Corporation in its $525 million acquisition of Codecademy
  • Staple Street Capital and Eastern Dental Management in the sale of Eastern Dental to Branford Castle Partners
  • Storytel AB, a publicly traded portfolio company of EQT, in its $135 million acquisition of Audiobooks.com
  • Stripes, LLC, as second lead investor, alongside General Atlantic, in an $825 million tender offer to purchase shares of Vuori, Inc.
  • TPG in its acquisition of a majority stake in Morrow Sodali
  • WellSpring Consumer Healthcare (a portfolio company of Avista Capital Partners) in a carve-out transaction involving the acquisition of skin care brands A+D, Solarcaine, Cortate and Complex 15 from Bayer AG
  • Privately-held corporation in its acquisition of $33 million of investment tax credits generated by two utility-scale solar projects.

Griffin is actively involved in the Firm’s pro bono efforts, including work with the Center for Black Leadership.

Griffin joined Weil as a summer associate in 2019.

Griffin received his J.D., summa cum laude and Order of the Coif, from Duke University School of Law, where he served as a Staff Editor and Editorial Board Member of the Duke Law Journal, and his B.A., cum laude, from the University of Florida. Griffin was recognized for obtaining the second highest score on the July 2021 Texas Bar Exam.
